I was running in a neighborhood that is next to our apartment complex. I've been doing this for almost 2 years with no issues. I always take Tucker with me unless I'm running more than 6 miles or it's really hot - then I leave him at home. We've run by this particular house many times, and now that I think about it, I remember seeing the "attack dog" fenced up in the back yard barking his head off at Tuck as we ran by. On Tuesday, the dog ran out the front door. I think the owner had the door open talking to someone on the front porch. The dog was unleased and the attack was completely unprovoked. It lasted about a minute or so. The guy finally got his dog to let go and led him back in the house. I said some not-so-nice things to him, including calling him an ASSHOLE... which I don't regret.
We walked back home, and I thought Tucker was fine. It wasn't until about an hour later that we noticed a blood spot where he had been laying. So, we took him to the emergency vet where they found another wound, cleaned both of them and gave us antibiotics for him. They also suggested we call Animal Control and report it, so we did. We're still waiting to hear what will happen - but we were told that since the cops didn't see it happen, they can't give the guy a citation. But, they can check to see if the dog has up-to-date vaccinations and ask the owner to pay our vet bill. In NC, it's required by law to have dogs vaccinated for a bunch of stuff, including rabies.
Here are a couple (blurry because he kept moving) photos of the wound on his back. The one on his chest is pretty much impossible to photograph.
Poor baby.
Injured, but still happy.
Just because, here is Tucker being the sweetie-pie that he is.
I am SO glad that Tucker is ok. OMG.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweetie pie.
Poor Tucker, glad he is getting better.
ReplyDeleteWow, I love that last picture. You should frame it!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness, your poor baby!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletenico was bitten by another dog once in the dog park. the lady wasn't even watching. he had to have leg surgery because we didn't notice the wounds soon enough. it was awful.
feel better soon Tucker!
Ohhhh...puppy!! Poor baby Tucker. :( Dog fights are so, so scary, even if they aren't your babies. Can't believe the other dog owner was such a toolbag. UGH. I'm glad you called him an asshole and that you reported it, even if nothing comes of it. Maybe he'll at least think twice about how he handles his dog and how he should behave so as not to be a douche.
ReplyDeleteI hope Tucker recovers quickly!!
Poor Tucker! I can't imagine. If Devo ever got attacked I don't know what I'd do.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys. :) Tucker is doing well - acting like his happy self. We've run 3 times since the "incident" and he was good. We avoided asshole's house, of course.
