My favorite was when I was asked to add a red shadow and red outline to a new corporate logo. It looks so awful and they LOVE it. They keep telling me, "make it like MAD MEN!" Except when I think of mad men I think classy and when they think man men they think hideous and dated.
Oh, Lord -- WHY do clients seem to lap up that crap? Our product teams always request the most inane designs, and/or the only direction they provide is, "Just make it look and sound cool." Um, I'm thinking your version and my version of "cool" is something vastly different, crazy people.
