My family is driving down from Ohio today and we are joining them at Ocean Isle Beach for the weekend! We we there 8 months ago... when we got married.
I'm excited to be going back so soon... and I little sad that we will living be so far from the beach in a few weeks. (There are SOME good things about living in the dirty south!)
In case you're wondering, Tucker-dog is going to Camp Waggin' Tails (not kidding) for the weekend.

I sent a file titled "[Client]poster_24x36.jpg"
"hey Sarah, what are the dimensions of this poster board? the printer is asking me and I have no idea!"
Well, it's 24 x 36. Says it right there in the file name. Also says it in the graphic request that YOU filled out.
"Then can we do like a star burst ***Wearing a little black dress gets you entered in to our diamond giveaway!** Add another star burst somewhere else on the flyer **hottest black dress of the night wins a free bottle of liquor"**"
Man, what a great idea. Starbursts make everything better!
"Something is wrong with the Twitter background you designed. Fix, please."
Um, well, it would be nice if Twitter wasn't blocked. Then maybe I could design it correctly.
"I was just going to photoshop it in myself or something."
Oh God, no.
While designing a drink features menu, I noticed that brand names (such as Sprite and Tang) were not capitalized in the copy, so I capped them and sent along for proofing. Apparently that's the wrong thing to do...
"People will realize that booze is capitalized and everything else is not. That’s how we do our bev. Menus."
OK, so... I beg to differ. People will realize that we don't know how to use proper nouns.
Only 2 more weeks of these people! I cannot express my excitement! But this photo is close:
"Is there anyway we can make this look a little more lively? It is a great bar night with burgers and music. I actually liked the old stuff they put together. Like the first versions with the shadows and something. This one looks a little bland. Can you spice it up?"
Ohhh, the art "with the shadows and something." Yes, I know EXACTLY what you mean.
"Please take off cc info in the first paragraph and the cc info at the bottom of the contract with just leaving the cc."
Umm, huh?
"Please add 'All day patio BBQ from 3-10pm!'"
Ha!
Me: "Please find your emailer and screenplay attached."
Client: "Can we please get this in an emailer that we can send out for mass emailers?"
*sigh*
"Can you print this out and bring it down the hall at some point, so we can figure out what to put in there."
What?! I'm your secretary now? Do it your damn self!
"When we uploaded it to [email marketing program] it appears as a table tent."
Wow, that's amazing!
And now for some (weird) client praise...
"Its amazing how much I can love someone without ever meeting them-lol, thanks Sarah!!"
Hmm... I guess I should be happy about this, but it really kind of creeps me out.
Last week I wrote a post on how much I love The Pacific on HBO. I had a couple people tell me I need to watch Band of Brothers, so we rented and watched the entire mini-series this weekend.
It was great. Extremely painful to watch, but great. Just like The Pacific, there are interviews with the men depicted in the film, but we don't find out who they are until the very end - after we are already attached to them. The last quote of the series got me, as in I balled.Major Richard Winters quoted a letter from Sergeant Mike Ranney who served with him in Easy Company, "'I cherish the memories of a question my grandson asked me the other day when he said, Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?' Grandpa said 'No… but I served in a company of heroes.'"
These guys were ALL heros. Every single one of them.
If you haven't seen Band of Brothers, I recommend it and I think it's an important story for every American to know.

Here's an interesting tidbit: Tom Hanks had a huge part in creating both series. Hanks has always had 2 main passions - WWII and space exploration. So, when he was far enough along in his career where he could pick and choose projects, he worked on Apollo 13, Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers and now, The Pacific. Cool, no?
